Introduction to Coding
This course is specially designed for young learners aged 7 and above! You will explore the fundamentals of coding, including loops, conditionals, and variables, through interactive games, coding robots, and the visual programming language Scratch.
Important Note
Students must bring their laptops for the last two sessions. Classes are held on Saturdays only to encourage maximum participation of school-going children.
Overview of Scratch and Coding
In the first session, students will be introduced to the concept of an algorithm, which is a step-by-step set of instructions. They will use algorithm cards to understand the basics of creating a sequence of actions.
Learning and Practicing Sequence
Students will dive deeper into sequencing by using sequence cards to organize actions. They will practice creating clear, logical sequences to achieve specific outcomes.
Meeting the First Coding Robot
This session is an exciting introduction to coding robots. Students will meet their first robot, Botley, and learn how to command it using sequences of instructions.
Learning Decomposition
Decomposition is breaking down complex tasks into smaller, manageable parts. Students will apply this concept by tackling a mobile pattern challenge, enhancing their problem-solving skills.
Reinforcing Sequence and Loops
Students will transition to Sphero Indi cars, reinforcing their understanding of sequences and learning about loops, which allow actions to be repeated efficiently.
Mastering the Coordinates
Coordinate systems will be introduced as students will master the art of navigating using coordinates. This will help them to navigate and direct their digital and physical creations with precision, using coordinate systems.
Introduction to Scratch
Students will step into the digital world of coding with Scratch, a visual programming language. They’ll learn how to create scripts and interact with characters and objects.
Exploring Scratch
In the final session, students will explore Scratch further by taking on coding challenges that require creativity and problem-solving. This session would encourage them to apply their coding knowledge to new and exciting projects.
